BANNEDTHOUGHT
PRABHAT (“Dawn”)
A Revolutionary Magazine which is Banned in India
The editorial board of Prabhat has issued this introductory description of the magazine:
‘Prabhat’ means Dawn. This magazine is the official political organ of CPI (Maoist)’s DKSZC [Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee]. It was launched in 1988 and it’s being published in the Hindi language. Between 1995 to 2005 some of the issues of this magazine were also brought out in Telugu. It’s a regular tri-monthly magazine, but at times, it has not been that much regular due to so many constraints including enemy attacks.
In the beginning, it used to get published from urban areas where the staff would live clandestinely with proper cover. But when the enemy intensified attacks in urban areas, it was shifted to the DK guerrilla zone along with its staff comrades. It had an old fashioned cyclostyle machine then that was the only printing mechanism of this magazine. From 1997 onwards, computer composing, screen printing and mini offset machines slowly entered into the jungles of Dandakaranya.
No doubt, Prabhat has been playing its role as an organizer, as defined by Lenin, and thus it’s been contributing in the revolutionary movement of Dandakaranya.
So many adivasi guerrilla comrades have worked and have been working as the staff of this magazine. As part of its multi-pronged attack, the enemy is targeting also this magazine and its staff with the aim of finishing it off. In 2010, on August 17 mercenary killer gangs of the ruling classes attacked this unit and brutally killed Comrade Chaite, a female staff member. On July 25, 1999 Comrade Somanna, one of the founder members of the printing unit of this magazine, was killed in a clash with enemy forces while fighting heroically. Recently, on February 7, 2013, an elderly women comrade named Samita, a former staff member of the Prabhat unit who had served between 2000-2003, succumbed to cancer.
The mission of BANNEDTHOUGHT.NET is to struggle against the suppression of ideas anywhere in the world, and to try to make available documents and publications which are being suppressed. For this reason we are making available here as many issues of Prabhat as we can obtain. These issues are in PDF format, and are in Hindi unless otherwise noted.

— NOTICE —
Due to the repressive legislation and judicial decisions in the United States, we at BANNEDTHOUGHT.NET want to make it completely clear that we do not have any connection whatsoever with the Communist Party of India (Maoist), or with any other party in India or any other country for that matter. We do not aid, promote, assist, support, coordinate with, or provide any sort of services or advice to the CPI(Maoist) or to any other party. However, we do support the right of free speech, and the right of the people in both India and internationally to read the views and publications of this and all other parties and organizations. For this reason we do object to the suppression of the views and ideas put forward by the CPI(Maoist) by the undemocratic central and state governments of India. And for this reason alone we are making copies of many CPI(Maoist) documents available on this site, documents which the authorities in India wish to suppress and keep from the people.
Also, we ask visitors to this site to please don’t ask us to try to contact the CPI(Maoist) for them. We have no way of doing that. Thank you.
